This morning, I felt a familiar feeling rise in my chest as I brought some creative ideas to Jesus. It’s an anxious tightness that warns me to rush and plan for every scenario, to guarantee that goal or project is successful. By now I’ve learned this isn’t the best creative fuel for me, that it often leads to more stress and striving than I ever intended.
But even with such awareness, this leaves me wondering how to redirect hustle. I don’t believe the answer is to cease work altogether, because that God-given urge to do and make is still there. It’s just wrapped in layers of fear.
I’m finding that we need God’s loving presence to untangle us from fear, so we can create with freedom and joy. He’s the only one who can redirect hustle into unhindered creative energy. So if you’re finding yourself stuck in that striving mode, I pray you experience God’s love and it sets you free.
